BIM > the queen barely made it, with 27 feet between the bridge and the ship.

"The hulking QM2 was the largest ship to ever enter San Francisco Bay. On Sunday afternoon, the 1,132-foot-long, 150,000-ton ocean liner made maritime history by going under the Golden Gate bridge with just 27 feet to spare. The ship then circled the harbor area and anchored near Treasure Island for a few hours before it docked at Pier 27 at high tide.

Docking was risky business, as San Francisco Bay is home to treacherous currents and tides. The dredged-out waterfront is so shallow and muddy in places that the ship’s navigational margin for error was less than 70 feet."
